upcoming event: Art without Boundaries
Amna Tariq
Total Arts at the Courtyard is pleased to host the “Art without Boundaries” exhibition and sale of South Asian Art which features predominantly Pakistani artists. This exhibition has been arranged by Maliha Bhutto Rahimtoola and Nyla Qayoom Noorani . The majority of the pieces in this exhibition showcase work of up-coming Pakistani artists whose work is a timely and social reminder of Pakistan’s current state. The works selected vary in styles and medium ranging from Calligraphy to Contemporary Art. Pakistan with its rich cultural heritage encompasses the Himalayas in the North, the rich fertile lands of the Punjab, and the deserts of Sindh in the South. The diversity in Pakistan’s social, ethnical, and history has provided marvelous artistic talents over the past 60 years. The current crop of Pakistani artists represents a generation that had to deal with natural disasters, political upheaval and terrorism that has shattered many lives. This selection of artworks aims to symbolize the defining aspirations of a generation where art knows and has no boundaries. The exhibition will be presenting specially selected works by over a dozen artists, which include Rabia Zuberi, Masuma Halai, Mehrbano Khattak, Asma Asif, Emaan Mahmoud, and Meher Afroz. Each of the artists has been asked to create work that reflects their own personal vision and outlook. A few of the artists will be present in person to explain their thought process. We are confident that these artists will continue Pakistan’s strong artistic tradition for generations to come and we are certain their work will be appreciated and exhibited globally in the years to come. The works of Smeeta Roy from India and Jamal from Bangladesh will also be exhibited to reflect the region’s talent and vision across boundaries. Please also note that some of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Flood Relief effort in Pakistan, which is a humanitarian disaster. The Exhibition will be open to the general public on October 5th and 6th between 9am-7pm. Private viewing will be on October 4th between 6pm and 9pm.
