Description:
Opening on Tuesday, 17th November 2009, 8 pm. Exhibition continues until 7th December. Participant photographers: Asiya Al –Sharabi, Abdulrahman Hasan Jaber, Samar Jodha, Kamran Jebreili, Jason Larkin, Katarina Premfors, Ahmed Ramzan, Manuel Salazar, Simone Santi, Souheil Semaan, Dariush Zandi “Journey to Yemen”, a film by Nader Bagherpoor and lectures on “Yemen Architecture” will complement the exhibition.Yemen, a fertile and wealthy land, is a country with over 7000 years of history that to this day maintains its distinct character. One of the most untouched and unexpected places where you step back to the history. The way of life, traditions and centuries old architecture make Yemen a living museum. However what are the most intact and least disturbed by the influence of modern living is the purity and simplicity of the life and people. No matter where you are in the country you will be overwhelmed by the authenticity, more remote areas you go to more intense will be this feeling. In this exhibition Yemen is presented through the lens of acclaimed photographers who travelled to Yemen in March and May 2009; A treasure trove for all of them, a paradise for photographers. The project “Yemen. A treasure trove” has been organized by Total Arts Gallery in collaboration with Arabia Felix to make Yemen with its geographic proximity to Dubai and historical importance within the region also as tourist destination, which is surprisingly mostly visited by tourists from Europe, the US or Japan, more known in the Gulf region. Yemenia, Arabia Felix and Total Arts Gallery from Dubai and Universal Touring Company and the Yemen Tourism Promotion Board from Yemen supported this trip. This exhibition would not have been possible without the generous support of TruColour from Dubai.
